Australian Government produced television series to be distributed ... - Engadget

The Australian Federal Government has decided to enhance the work of filmmakers from the country by giving them the choice of distribution channels of their works, so will work with USD $ 350,000 to finance part of the production of an upcoming series of science fiction television to be distributed by BitTorrent .

The series consist of a thriller set in space, will be called “The Tunnel ‘, a film that Paramount Pictures released on BitTorrent in 2011.

The filmmakers claim that in his earlier works had enough trouble with Australian shops for choosing BitTorrent as a distribution channel, so we believe that this accolade by an official institution could help to take seriously in Australia to P2P technology to distribute this content.

Despite success with ‘The Tunnel’, the creators claimed that:

We

blocked by the big stores, despite the backing DVDs Paramount in Australia (…) With the high piracy rates in Australia, the despised ‘word that starts with t’ is usually a political problem for the TV industry and film.

That the Australian Government fund ‘Airlock’ premieres its strategy via torrent and no other traditional production is quite significant for us. I felt like a vindication for the last few years. It means that people have been listening to us.

However, the Australian government money only partly finance the production, so that the creators are going to launch in the coming hours crowdfunding campaign to finish raising the money necessary to carry the series.
