The Government may extend the deadline for retune TV … – Yahoo Finance Spain

MADRID (Reuters) – The Ministry of Industry has raised broadcasters the ability to extend the deadline for the blackout of digital TV channels occupying frequencies reserved for mobile telephony.

“The Ministry of Industry is talking with industry to address the possibility of extending the deadline for retuning a while,” said Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, Deputy Prime Minister in weekly press conference after the cabinet meeting,

The original plan called for the shutdown of the affected channels on January 1, 2015 to deliver the airwaves to the three major mobile operators, who paid 1,200 million euros in 2011.

But the shutdown require a reorientation of digital TV antennas for households continue to receive the signal from the relocated channel.

The newspaper Expansion said Friday the reantenización process is too slow and, at the risk of many households no longer receive the signal, the deadline for the outage could be extended by three months until April 1.

“With the extension of three months, is estimated to reach 85% of reantenización “, the newspaper said adding that now remains to modernize about half of the antennas
