BEIJING (Reuters) – The main TV China, CCTV, investigate one of their presenters after a video of his insulting the founder of modern China, Mao Zedong, would become viral on social networks.
Mao, who died in 1976, remains a controversial figure.
His image adorns notes and his embalmed body attracts hundreds if not thousands of daily visitors to Beijing.
While the ruling Communist Party has acknowledged that Mao made errors, has yet to render official accounts by the chaos of the Cultural Revolution or the millions of deaths from starvation during the ‘Great Leap Forward’ in China between 1958 and 1961.

In the video, which is circulating on social networks, Bi sings parts of an opera from the time of the Cultural Revolution called ‘Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy’, then insert your own comments, including that Mao led the people to misery.
In a statement on its official microblog, Bi said he was “extremely remorseful and hurt” by the effect of his words.
