The adaptation of stories, novels, comics, plays and many different media is not new. Both literature and cinema have benefited from remakes , revisitations updated, prequels, sequels and other versions that extend the universes of original creations in order, we think, to give new life to the work. And the TV in your vaunted golden age would be less.
Recently, television channels and cable Americans have launched the revision and recycling of stories told in other means for the development of new series. What is striking about this trend is the huge number of films that will rise on the small screen in coming seasons.
Big blockbusters like Minority Report and Rush Hour , comedies of the 80s as Big or Bachelor, horror films like Scream or dystopian science fiction stories like 12 monkeys or Westworld ( Westworld ) are examples of this trend, which knows no gender, ages and budgets. Only numbers.
Far from a nonexistent crisis of ideas, analysts agree that this boom of film adaptations on the small screen responds to the mere intention to monetize successful products using nostalgia or familiarity the viewer as decoys. A search certainties in an unpredictable environment as grills television while demanding more content with increasing cable TV or entry of new players like Amazon or Netflix.
Just as with any television series, most adaptations of existing properties and end in failure or disappear after a few episodes. In other cases, the project does not even issued. This is the case of Beverly Hills , an almost sure bet scheduled for the 2013-2014 season produced by the protagonist of the original trilogy, Eddie Murphie, CBS rejected after watching the pilot episode.
Fortunately there are laudable exceptions like Hannibal or Bates Motel , two television prequel about the origins of characters glorified in movies that have managed to develop their own and disturbing universes; Review acclaimed modern classic Coen Brothers, Fargo ; or traveling a little more time Buffy the Vampire Slayer or M * A * S * H , two series that got overshadow the movies that were based.
