MEXICO CITY (CNNExpansión) – Grupo Radio Centro y Tres Cadena won the tender for the two new broadcast networks, so that each company will announced on Wednesday Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) at a press conference.
Radio Centro scored 100 points out of 100 in the contest, while Cadena Tres 83, said Gabriel Contreras, president of the IFT commissioner.
The company proposed Francisco Aguirre 3.058 million pesos for one of the chains with which aims to serve a population of 106.3 million inhabitants, the agency said earlier.
Three Chain, headed by Olegario Vazquez Aldir offered 1.808 million pesos for the other chain and aims to cover the same number of people.
“So are these tenders. The companies can make higher bids to avoid the risk of losing the tender,” said Maria Elena Estavillo, Commissioner of IFT.
“They are two positions that confirm that the market is valuing positively this business. Are having positive expectations about the business,” he explained.
The chains of Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) are obtained by a period of 20 years renewable, and will have 30 calendar days to make payment in accordance with the rules of the process.
In the first three years must be at least 30% of the coverage to which they agreed and up to 5 years for the total.
With this decision is to increase competition in the sector, which has long been dominated by Televisa and TV Azteca.
“This is an unprecedented procedure, which aims to achieve greater competition and pluralism in the broadcasting sector for the benefit of audiences,” said Gabriel Contreras.
“They are undoubtedly very good news for Mexico,” he added.
Companies can sublet the spectrum cattle or explore directly.
The minimum reference price set at the base of tendering for each of the alternatives was 830 million pesos and a minimum coverage of 30% of the population in each state of the Republic.
The winners were determined based on a formula in which the financial offer had a weight of 4% and 60% coverage, the agency said.
Grupo Radio Centro was founded by Francisco Aguirre Jimenez in 1952 and its main activities are the production and transmission of music programs, entertainment and news.
It has 15 radio stations, 12 of them in Mexico City plus one in Guadalajara, Monterrey and Los Angeles.
Cadena Tres is part of Grupo Imagen Angeles Multimedia Business Group (GEA), owned by Olegario Vazquez Rana.
This set brings together business media as Excelsior, Excelsior TV, Radio Picture, Report 98.5, plus several websites.
