Lochte apologizes to the Brazilian television and assumes its … – Deutsche Welle

American swimmer Ryan Lochte acknowledged Saturday (21/08/2016) in a television interview that “exaggerated” his account of the alleged theft suffered in Brazil during the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and assumed “full responsibility” for the scandal and what he called a “immaturity”. “If it had not exaggerated the story he had told or full, this would not have happened,” he admitted, saying he was “drunk”.

However, Lochte partially insisted on his version: “there was a gun pointed in our direction, we were all scared,” he told the Brazilian network TV Globo. He added that they had “to give them money” to leave. On Friday, Lochte had asked for a public apology for his conduct in a message posted on his Instagram account. “I want to apologize for my behavior last weekend, for not being more careful and sincere in how I described the events of that morning and have removed the focus of many athletes who are fulfilling the dream of participating in the Olympics “then he said.

“I did not want to share these thoughts until the legal situation was clarified and my teammates were back safe in the United States,” added the American of 32 years after the scandal starred with swimmers Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and James Feigen.
