Are your tweets can change a TV show? – FORTUNE

(CNN) – As Netflix and other services streaming (transmission of video in real time), social networks have become important part of the way we watch television today. But how important are materials for those who make television?

After all, we live in a world where programming Thursday night on ABC (with Scandal in front) is considered both an event social networks as a television event.

Gale Anne Hurd, executive producer of The Walking Dead , the hit AMC, says that social networks create a community.

“It has brought together people of all cultures and all countries that share their love for the program, a particular character, theme or whatever comes to mind,” he says.

“People have formed a new family. We call it the TWD family. Now, people do not have to wait to join in the water dispenser of the office the next day.”

The Walking Dead program is # 1 on Twitter for the third consecutive year, according to Nielsen. On average, four million people read at least one of the 424,000 tweets about each episode.

Hurd says the program uses cliffhangers, such as the supposed death of Glenn, to activate social networks.

Game of Thrones is the most popular television series in Facebook and the third most popular on Twitter. The end of the fifth season had 436,000 related tweets and an audience of 5.1 million people.

Sabrina Caluori, director of marketing in social networks HBO, says that tweets do not change the direction of the program.

“Although I think it’s inspiring to see the reaction of the fans, does not change the vision, creative storytelling program,” says Caluori, adding that the role of social networks is organizing frenzy.

“We published a poster teaser with Jon Snow. From our perspective, the digital perspective, was how to present the poster, how to show it to the fans and the time do. We have certain times around the big events in our core materials, “said Caluori.

One of the latest signs that figure Jon Snow has been retweeted more than 77,000 times.

On the other hand, Marlene King, executive producer of Pretty Little Liars , says that social networks have changed the way in which her fans and watch television.

Pretty Little Liars is based on a series of novels for adults and generates an average of 285,000 tweets per episode.

King believes that the instant feedback from fans is the best gift. “It feels like you’re watching them,” he says. Reviews fans have caused new scripts and even try to correct errors from previous episodes.

King believes that the complexity of the plot is what distinguishes the program.

“We do not respond to all questions Our fans like to discover things we had to find that balance with the studio and the television to say.. ‘They do not want to be demos on a silver platter. This audience is smart. They want to find out. They want to deduct it. ‘”

However, Paul Wesley, actor of the series Vampire Diaries that has won 3.9 million followers in Twitter, believes that social networks can have a negative impact.

“People see a program because in the end want to see something happen, but it does not happen and continue watching until it happens,” he said.

“I think social networks can be misleading because if people rebel against something does not necessarily mean we have to change something.”
