The Congressman Juan Carlos Eguren ( PPC ) and the leader of Tierra y Libertad Marco Arana discussed the mining in the country.
Eguren accused Arana not condemn the illegal mining and did not order the cessation of violence in protests in Arequipa. While the member of Tierra y Libertad said yes they have ruled on both issues. He added that the formal mining has a greater environmental impact that illegal.
Arana said Justice will determine whether Pepe Julio Gutiérrez is guilty or not attempting to extort the Southern mining. He added that the company has unpaid fines in the country and also in the United States is investigated for bribing judges.
In turn, Eguren recalled that the leader, former member of Tierra y Libertad, had convictions for extortion and an attack during a strike. He argued that he should remain in prison “as long as possible”.
