Cuban television official apology for the erroneous news … – 14ymedio.com

The stellar Cuban television news read on Wednesday night to a note of apology for having erroneously informed of an agreement between the French company Total and state Cupet for oil exploration in the coast of the island.

The news was released on the same television program last Monday and was denied by the company through a statement to the Agence France Presse. A Total spokesman said the agreement was only an extension of a contract signed in 1993 for the sale of oil products to Cuba “within the project of Marketing and Services”.

The television official attributed the error to a journalist who covered the visit to Cuba by French President Francois Hollande. “The entity concerned ‘said the note clarifies that what we actually signed between Cupet and Total was an extension of an existing intention letter and certainly the French company does not conduct exploration activities in Cuba”.

While reading the note of apology, he made a further error by stating that “offer excuses for the consequences that may have been generated with such poor unfortunate understood” in instead of the corresponding “pitiful misunderstanding.”

Total is present in Cuba since 1993 in the field of marketing of petroleum products, such as automotive and industrial lubricants, fuel additives or LPG (liquefied petroleum gas).

In addition, the group provides technical assistance to four Cuban airports and maintains business with Cubametales petroleum products, the State company import and export of minerals and metals.
