At least two television networks in the US could be sued if transmit a series on the life of Mexican drug trafficker Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman , said Wednesday one of his lawyers to the agency the Associated Press .
Andrés Granados, one of the defense, said that broadcasters must pay for the rights to use the name and nickname of his client.
“If they removed, immediately going to be sued,” Granados said. “They need a mandatory permission from Mr. Guzman, because he is not dead,” he said.
On May 17, the largest network of Internet TV, Netflix, and Univision Story House announced that they will co-produce a series called “El Chapo” about the life of Sinaloa kingpin, recaptured in January. The story would air
2017.
Granados told the agency that the “fair price” Joaquin Guzman Loera would be willing to give information to improve the narrative.
So far, only Mexican actress Kate del Castillo has received rights “El Chapo” to tell his life on film. In February, his lawyer Harland Braun confirmed that would be similar to the film The Godfather.
Braun said then that Mexican produce the tape and possibly be part of the cast.
