The online video giant will offer starting next year a package of pay channels via a subscription service.
(CCM) – YouTube, which started the transmission of live content in 2011 and subsequently paid content in 2015, will venture in 2017 with service pay-TV channels. The service, according to information gathered by Bloomberg news agency (in English), will be called “Unplugged” (Offline, in Spanish) and will have a monthly cost of no more than $ 35 (31 euros) . This price contrasts with pay-TV services in the US, which usually have a much higher price.
According to Bloomberg, YouTube and would list its infrastructure to introduce this type of content, but for the moment does not have the broadcast rights. The Google subsidiary company is currently find in negotiations with various television channels in the US, as Fox, CBS or NBC Universal. These discussions are still at a very early stage as channels are apparently not according to the “low” price proposed by YouTube.
The increase in Internet video consumption has made more and more players want to participate in such business. After the revolution that Netflix opened in 2007, it has recently joined Amazon. For its part, YouTube, although with another economic model, also wants to take advantage of this situation brought about by connections to ever-faster Internet and at a lower price.
