The Czech television TV Nova is purchased by AT&T – Radio Prague

The u.s. company telecommunications AT&T has agreed to acquire Time Warner, considered as the third media conglomerate and the world’s largest entertainment. Time Warner is also the main shareholder of Central European Media Enterprises (CME), which owns the television channel Czech TV Nova.

This merger constitutes the largest agreement concluded this year, an important milestone in the integration of the rapid development of the media, Internet and communications.

In this way, the first operator of telecommunications of the united States would have control of the cable television HBO, CNN and Warner Bros, which have emerged successful audiovisual projects such as Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, and Batman, among others. With the millions of paid subscribers for movies, sports, and other services, the appropriation of high-quality content is very attractive. It is expected that AT&T will enjoy a dominant position in the media market, which could weaken the competition.

Time Warner is the largest shareholder of Central European Media Enterprises (CME). The company CME was created by the millionaire Ronald Lauder, and the string of Czech TV Nova was the first foray into the media landscape of Central Europe in 1994.

CME expanded rapidly, covering six countries of Europe and the Balkans, while TV Nova is your main source of income. However, the expansion also involved a large amount of debt and that is why Time Warner has gradually increased its participation in CME.
