The presidential candidate of the Frente Amplio, Veronika Mendoza, proposed creating an independent body responsible for regulating the content to be broadcast on television, in order to promote education and culture.
“I have a young daughter and, like millions of women in our country, working inside and outside the house and I worry about what she can see on television. If we look at the programming of these days, we see that on the airwaves, for example dominate the programs of shows, the famous realities , and there is, in comparison, space for educational programs, “said Mendoza while participating in the first presidential debate.
The candidate for the presidency of Peru recalled that months ago the citizens called for demonstrations against the so-called “trash TV” (reality shows and entertainment programs). “To us it seems that the state should have a stake in the media regulation , respecting, of course, full freedom of expression,” he said about it.
He added that the proposal of the Frente Amplio is to create a regulatory body with autonomous government, as well as investing more money in the production of educational and cultural programs on national television and diveros media.
