Ankara, 29 sep (EFE).- The Turkish authorities decreed today the closing of twelve television channels for their alleged complicity with the failed coup attempt of the past July 15.
According to the Higher Council of Radio and Television of Turkey (RTUK), the closing occurs in accordance with the state of emergency in force in the country and decisions of the prime minister, Binali Yildirim.
Organizations Turkish media protested against the decision and pointed out that “in the name of the struggle against the coup, they are applying the methods that a hit successful have put in place”.
After the coup attempt, the Government islamist Turkish accuses the movement of the preacher-conservative Fethullah Gülen, were closed down numerous tv stations.
The twelve channels shut down now were defined by the local press as “kurds”, “left” and “alavíes”, that is to say, are not related to the movement of Gülen, who is in exile in the united States.
The Security Council of Turkey (MGK), a body composed by the Government, the president of the country and senior military officials recommended last night to extend for three months the state of emergency, in force since 20 July.
According to a joint statement issued today by several press organisations, more than one hundred journalists have been arrested since the failed coup, while some 2,300 lost their jobs due to the closure of their means of communication.
