Kiev, Sept. 19. – The Ukrainian state television today announced its decision to give up retransmitting the next year’s Festival Song Contest due to lack of money

“We understand that Eurovision is a prestigious project but.. have no right to do wrong. And to do it right, just do not have money, “said Zurab Alasania, director general of the First Channel of public television.

Alasania left the door open just in case some another TV company will want to take over the project together.

“, We are glad, because I fear that on our own we will not be able.’s why we have taken the decision to resign,” he added.

The channel recognizes that Ukrainian musicians themselves admit that it’s not the right time to hold a contest in order to choose the Ukrainian Eurovision representative, referring to the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

The Ukrainian government plans to raise taxes again to the ailing state of the economy, which could fall to 9 percent this year, according to international experts.

The losses caused by war and the drastic drop in trade with neighboring Russia have left empty coffers of the Ukrainian state. EFE
