One in four Spaniards pay for television – Rapid TV News Spain

Although still far from the average penetration data of Western Europe, pay television continues to grow apace in Spain, and is now present in about 25 % of households in the country.

The convergence and improved fiber infrastructure have boosted pay-TV services in Spain from 3.7 million subscribers in 2013 to about 5.5 million in mid 2015, explained from the National Commission on Competition and Markets (CNMC).

In fact, from that 24.4% of households subscribe to pay TV services, ensures that almost half decided to hire the service because your telecom operator offered it integrated into a converged offering with other services. The availability of better content, especially series, is the second most important reason to choose pay-TV.

Technology and infrastructure also seem to be pushing the increasing penetration of this service. During the past 12 months, pay TV has added 1.4 million subscribers, almost all of them through convergent IPTV packages on the fiber network.

At the end of the first half of 2015, 49.4% of households had a service of triple play with mobile and fixed phone and Internet, while 21.9% had chosen to add pay-TV offer.

And one last thing. Since June 2014, pay-TV grew by 11.4% in Spain, surpassed only by Internet (13.4% increase) and telecommunications service fastest growing in the country.
