Syfy mix tv with virtual reality in “Halcyon” – Terra Colombia

viewers will have to get out of their armchairs to see the series of science fiction and suspense “Halcyon”, the first hybrid from the format of traditional television and virtual reality.

The experience of the series, which debuted in Latin america on Thursday at 9:00 pm on the cable channel Syfy includes chapters with 2D format that will be presented in conventional television and chapters of virtual reality are available through the equipment Oculus Rift and Samsung VR operated by Oculus, that is used by viewers to create images in 3D and 360 that viewers tend to explore of foot, moving the head in the direction they want to see.

In a conversation with journalists, the director Benjamin Arfmann and the creative director Stefan Grambart shared a few details about this production.

“What I like about virtual reality is that it erases the boundary between the author and the public, and in any way defends the idea of a narrative told from the interaction,” said Grambart.

“The stories are interactive and diving are the most exciting right now,” said Arfmann

“Halcyon” consists of 15 episodes, five of which are exclusive to virtual reality. For viewers who don’t use the platforms of RV, there will be summaries of those episodes presented in capsules. In turn, users of Oculus Rift and Samsung VR you can see the entire series with your equipment RV if you so wish.

The story is set in 2040, when virtual reality is as common as cell phones now, and even causes addiction.

Is starred by Lisa Marcos in the role of detective Jules Dover and Harveen Sandhu as his assistant Asha, who are in charge of investigating the murder of Blake Creighton (Michael Therriault), director-general of Halcyon, the company of virtual reality that has brought this technology to the masses and has developed implants neurological RV.

The case of Creighton is special because he was strangled, but without that will leave marks on the body, so that it could be a murder of the real-life triggered within the virtual reality.

as Oculus, other platforms have begun to experiment with the format of RV to create series such as HTC Live presents “Gnomes & Goblins”.

“it Is very nice, I really like this project. It is different because that is totally RV, while ours is at the boundary between a component traditional 2D television screen, and an experience of immersion and interaction in the episodes of RV,” said Grambart.

The series does not yet have a release date for the united States.

In terms of the challenges that involved using the technology of RV, Arfmann noted that it is quite complicated to imitate real life.

“Is better now than when we started ‘Halcyon,”‘ he said.

“we Wanted that could reach the entire audience of Syfy” said Grambart. “That meant that everything was optimized for all media”.

The directors have worked closely together to unify the two formats of the series.

“Stefan and I went as each of the halves of the same brain during the performance,” said Arfmann.
