FRANKFURT (Reuters) – The Internet TV group said Saturday Netflix plans to expand to Italy this year, as part of its efforts to bring its popular service streaming television over 200 countries within two years.
The company, based in Silicon Valley, said that from October Internet users in Italy may subscribe to Netflix to see a selection of TV shows and movies on TVs, PCs, smartphones, tablets and other devices.
On Thursday, Netflix announced plans to enter Spain also in October.
Netflix is available in more than 50 countries worldwide, including 13 Europeans.
Its focus on international expansion comes at a time when growth is slowing in the United States, which has changed the way people watch TV since its launch in 2007.
