BAMAKO (Reuters) – Mali’s state television on Monday showed footage of two men, apparently dead, they said were the “authors” of the attack by Islamist militants on a luxury hotel in the capital, Bamako, and requested information to know its identity.
A total of 20 people and two attackers were killed in Friday’s attack against the Radisson Blu hotel. Among the victims there are six Russians, three Chinese, one American, one Belgian, one Senegalese and one Israeli.
The Al Mourabitoun and jihadist group Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM, for its acronym in English) attributed the attack in a joint operation against the hotel, frequented by foreign businessmen and diplomats.
A third group also said to be responsible for the assault.
The state television pictures showed two young black men, one of them lying on a metal table, with a trickle of blood coming out from behind his left shoulder.
The television called on Malians to provide any information they have about these two people.
The killing of Bamako, which occurred a week after the attacks of Islamic State in Paris where they died 130 people, exposed the growing insecurity in Mali and the difficulties of France and the “blue helmets” of the United Nations to stabilize the former French colony.
