Gary Newman , CEO of FOX Television , confirmed in an interview with TV Guide , which are in talks to develop a series based on X-Men . In October we began to hear the first rumors that FOX intended to have its own set of superheroes and, more specifically, based on X-Factor , the group of mutants that arose in 1986 from the hand of the writer and comic book writer Peter David .
“ We are in negotiations ,” said Newman for a press tour held a few weeks ago by the Television Critics Association ( Television Critics Asocicación ). “We are cautiously optimistic. We have had an encouraging meeting,” Newman said referring to the first contact they have had with Marvel . In addition, the manager of FOX wanted to appeal for calm and explained that this is a first contact and it will not be a quick, creatively speaking.
As many of you know, today the film rights to X-Men are in the hands of FOX , but the company does not have the television , therefore, needs approval from Marvel to develop the project.
The story is more complicated than it seems, according to information published in those states that are conducting “sensitive conversations.” Especially when you consider that Warner Bros. Television is currently producing Gotham , based on characters from DC Comics for FOX series; and Disney , owns Marvel, has its own channels (including ABC, which broadcasts the series of SHIELD Agents and Agent Carter).
No doubt there is still much work to do, before even entering creative and technical aspects. All this has meant that Newman has wanted to clarify that in the event that finally the project would be carried out, the series of X-Men would not be ready before the 2016 television season, or even that of 2017.
