Local television with long pants – Economy and Business online

It is not common to see in the Chilean TV production level of “Siege,” which debuted last night in TVN. This series made by the public channel with the international hotel chain with Fox CNTV- contributions is based on a real event in the history of Chile: in 1598, 500 Spaniards are caught in the fort of Villarrica, besieged by the most feared warriors this part of the world, the Mapuche.

“Siege” has the resources of a world-class production. Strong of more than 600 square meters was built and more than 300 costumes and 200 armor were produced. He called for actors from different countries, achieving a good level of performances and even without the diversity of accents scope to bother. These elements indicate that it is a completely Chilean series, but its origin is in a group of filmmakers of TVN, who became obsessed with the passage of our history and beat doors to find the resources to carry it out.

Worth seeing the landscapes of La Araucanía in a production of big bill, as well as characters speaking in mapudungún and dressed for war as they did at that time (the shaved head and body paint) and not as the show illustrations of textbooks. Here you can see a coexistence between Spaniards and other Mapuche to which we learned at school because the everyday life of the relationship between the two groups and how the fact of living in the end of the world did that were mixed across the board is revealed: the home, work, sex and even love. Different is read in books to see it in flesh and blood characters.

The first chapter is focused on showing the main characters, with many intrigues of power, stark violence and explicit sex. At first, the story becomes confusing because there are few characters that are more than something to hide. The story goes slow at times, but worth the wait. There are characters that promise, as the sergeant Agustín González (Benjamin Vicuna), which represents the integration with nature and the Mapuche people. But the villains are more plentiful, as the strong Alonso conspirator Carvallo (Francisco Melo), seeking gold and power at all costs.

Probably not this the series will serve to TVN its disagreement with the audience. But it is clear that a product like this helps Chileans understand where we come from.
