Riddled TV channel manager in Honduras – El Nuevo Diario

The manager of a TV channel Taulabé, north of the Honduran capital, was shot dead by unknown, officials told local media.

Joel Aquiles Torres, 48, manager and shareholder of Canal 77 Taulabé, 160 km north of Tegucigalpa, was shot Saturday afternoon by unknown causes while being transported in a vehicle that was drilled 29 shots, according to the police report.

With Aquiles Torres rises to 56 the number of journalists and media workers killed in 12 years in Honduras, according to figures from the state Human Rights Commissioner. Only four cases have been brought before the courts.

On May 15th was killed an announcer for a radio station Sulaco, 350 km north of the capital, and in December was also killed another owner of a television channel Comayagua, in the center of the country.

Honduras closed 2014 with homicide rates highest in the world, 68 per 100,000 inhabitants, while in 2013 it was 79, according to the Observatory of Violence National University.
