Cuban television broadcast live Obama’s statement – RPP News

The Cuban state television It aired live on Wednesday the full statement made in Washington US President Barack Obama, on the restoration of diplomatic relations and the opening of embassies in both countries.

In a special broadcast on the Cubavisión channel, Cubans knew the decision of both countries to restore diplomatic relations, broken since 1961, announced that it was formalized by an exchange of letters between President Barack Obama and Raul Castro.

State television reported the contents of the letter to Raul Castro and the Cuban government statement on the same subject, to give way to moments after Obama’s statement in Washington live.

At the hearing, the US president confirmed that it has reached an agreement to restore diplomatic relations with Cuba, broken in 1961, and opening embassies in the respective capitals of each country this month.

The opening of embassies in Washington and Havana is a major step in the process of thaw between Cuba and the United States , but does not mean full normalization of relations since the island for it demands an end the embargo and the return of the lands of the Guantanamo Base.
