A former television comedian becomes president of Guatemala – LaTercera (Record)

The former TV comedian, Jimmy Morales , the Front National Convergence (FCN-Nation), last night thanked the Guatemalan people for their support, resulted in nearly two million votes to make it the President-elect of the Central American country.

“I will strive with all my heart and with all my strength to not disappoint with the vow he made me president,” Morales said in statements to the television chain that were his first Guatevisión words since he started counting.

With accounted for 69.56% of the tables (13,621 of the existing 19,582), Morales, 46, added an unprecedented advantage in their race to the presidency and already stood at 72.39 % of electoral support (1,956,594 votes).

His rival, former first lady Sandra Torres, National Unity of Hope (UNE), totaled 746,401 votes, or 27.61%, insufficient to deal with Morales, a novice in the world of politics.

“I got an errand, the people’s mandate is to fight corruption that has eaten us,” Morales said in a terse statement after they met the first official results, which were already irreversible.

Morales degree in business administration, although best known for his work in television comedy, and was the great revelation in the general elections held on 6 September.

“My commitment remains with God and the people of Guatemala,” reiterated the comic, evangelical confession.

Of the more than 7.5 million Guatemalans go to the polls until last night the result of 2,827,778 voters were recorded.

According to preliminary estimates, the share would be much lower than that achieved in the general election last September 6, when it exceeded 70%.
