The Rioja Government said yesterday that it has tendered, “respecting the principle of technological neutrality, the contract to ensure digital television service to one hundred percent of the free population of Rioja” which, according to his calculations will prevent about 40,000 residents living in rural areas remain without access to television.
The Official Bulletin of Rioja (BOR) yesterday published the announcement of the Ministry of Public Administration and Finance to tender, using the competitive dialogue procedure, the contract extension service coverage of digital television.
A maximum execution time is set ten years, explained the regional government, adding that at present only broadcasters are required to reach 96% or 98% of the national population .

Private broadcasters have an obligation to issue up to 96% of the population and the public up to 98%, so that coverage for these obligations, in La Rioja would be without public television service 40,000 Rioja, Logroño 5,000 of them.
These Rioja are in a shady location coverage, which is the area with no TV signal, mainly because of its location.
The Government of La Rioja recalled that “following the commitment to the territorial cohesion of the community and to eliminate barriers to access to new technologies and digital television public service” took on 2008 the task of supplying the market failures and carry TV signals to households that otherwise would not have access to it.
To do this, the regional government has awarded this service and took a bill of 900,000 euros per annum and an initial investment of more than five million.
