The US Space Agency (NASA) announced that it will launch in November a television channel Ultra High Definition (UHD) . The signal, noncommercial first in the country in UHD, transmit images from the International Space Station and other current NASA missions, as well as historical images remastered missions.
NASA has partnered with Harmonic company, world leader in video delivery infrastructure to launch the project. “The partnership with NASA Harmonic gives an outlet for their content UHD, which has four times the resolution of HD is the next goal of digital television,” said Robert Jacobs, associate deputy administrator Communications Office at NASA headquarters of the agency in Washington.
NASA Television will deliver video content straight 2160p60, allowing viewers to enjoy both TV images and connected devices Internet. With the 8-megapixel resolution of UHD, the channel will showcase the breathtaking beauty and grandeur of space.
Harmonic, is currently in talks with pay-TV operators in the United States to carry the channel on satellite, cable and optical access networks consumers. The channel also broadcast on the Internet, which will require at least 13 Mbps access connectivity to receive the signal and enjoy the experience of UHD.
It is expected that the new channel is launched UHD November 1 after preliminary tests.
