Luke Cage in the comics and in the tv – Hypertext

Luke Cage is a character that already has enough time to exist in the world of comics. It was the first superhero african-american to have his own title; appeared in Luke Cage, Hero for Hire #1, in June of 1972. Luke has, as we can see, a lot of stories which tell us. The recent series of Netflix opens the opportunity to get to know more of this character or, for the fans, to remember why this character is still standing after these more than thirty years.

As happens in the adaptations to film and television many times the stories change, sometimes without any logic whatsoever. In the case of Luke Cage, there are many things in the series that are faithful to the comics and of course, some of that changed to make them fit the universe of the series that we have already enjoyed and will enjoy in **Netflix and on the big screen**. An event that is counted during the 10 episodes of the season is the source of his superpowers and his friendship with Willis Stryker, which ended in rivalry, who later became Diamondback (Iguana), making it happen quite a few headaches.

In the beginning, the comic book Luke Cage created by Archie Goodwin and John Romita Sr., he was criticized for the racial stereotypes with which presented the hero of the skin unbroken, the villains and the neighborhood of Harlem in general. The distance is a sign of phenomenon blaxploitation which, basically, consisted of the african-american community as the protagonists, and to a greater extent was reflected in the film and the music.

it Is for this reason that the appearance of the Luke of the seventy, meets the stereotypes of an african-american Harlem of that time. In addition to that, too, wears a kind of tiara and a few wristbands. Thing to the the series Netflix does an excellent nod with which makes it clear that it is clear of that aspect and the character that was in its beginnings, to stick more to the model of Brian Michael Bendis that continues today in comics.

Now, as well versa the title of the comic book, Luke is very different than in the series where they strive to prove that they have no interest in the money. There are few stories in the comic, and in fact it is the center of his craft, where the protection of the residents of Harlem was a cost or when he took on special jobs for other villains; interestingly so that was how he met Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist those who would become his wife and a friend-partner respectively. With Daniel Rand, better known as Iron Fist, and Misty Knight, who also were able to see in the series of Netflix, are Heroes for Hire, Inc. at home in all kinds of cases. Things are complicated in the end for these two and things happen for other interesting, if not familiar with it, it would be best not to say that happens to not ruin the experience.

In the series does not use the name of Power Man (on any occasion is Claire Temple who called so, but nothing more). Name that would be used by the superhero for a long time. Later abandoned it, as leaves far behind its real name: Carl Lucas, a story which coincides in the series and in the comic.

One of their jobs to salary is to catch Spider-Man by order of J. J. Jameson, but doesn’t after meeting him in person. The great Spidey and Luke work more than once together, and are the first to be invited by Captain America to join the New Avengers. Their friendship and the characteristic humor of Spider-Man are more memorable and enjoyable.

Luke to appeared in several titles: Alias, The Press, the Daredevil and as we said in New Avengers. We also see this in the animated series as The Super Hero Squad Show, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Ultimate Spider-Man (which appears as Power Man).

Netflix we met him in the series of Jessica Jones and well, many things have been put on the table for what comes next. We know well that the next year will premiere the series of Iron Fist. With this, Marvel shows us that it has been taken quite seriously to be interrelated. Thus, as in the comics from a few years ago to here, in which the entire event occurred will affect the entire universe, the story of Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones and Daredevil will join later in a only title: The Defenders.
