The Japanese television network NHK began broadcasting test ultra high-definition 8K, aiming to refine this technology and widespread use before the Olympics in 2020 where Japan will host.
This is the first issue of global trial held in 8K, the superior format within the so-called ultra high definition, which has a resolution of 7680 × 4320 pixels (33.2 megapixels). Emissions are carried out in the satellite NHK channels.
In September last year went on sale the first TV 8K, the Sharp VL-85001.
It is planned that by 2018 the format of ultra high definition is common in transmissions, reported the Japanese state broadcaster.
the technology of ultra high definition or 4K quadruples the number of pixels in a high-definition screen Full HD, so that the resolution is four times higher than currently used HD: Full HD has pictures of 2 megapixel (1920 x 1080), while in 4K are 8.2 megapixel (3840 x 2160 pixels). Images 8K are four times more color points, with 33.2 megapixels per frame (7680 by 4320 pixels).
Japan’s state television plans to broadcast at 8K the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, and the swimming and athletics.
the 8K format has been used in testing in other countries, although Japan was one of the pioneers in its development through projects carried out by NHK in collaboration with Japanese universities and companies such as Sony, Panasonic, Sharp and Toshiba.
