Microsoft sells its software for IPTV "Mediaroom" to Ericsson - Engadget

is Mediaroom IPTV software which is used by various TV companies in 21 countries (including Movistar in Latin America), and Microsoft announced today its sale to Ericsson. The Redmond company says that the Swedes will continue to invest in the platform, installed in about 22 million set-top boxes today.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the acquisition implies on one hand that Ericsson is interested in any way in the television business, and on the other, that Microsoft seek to position the Xbox as its brand for TV. After all, the company has already sold 76 million Xbox 360 in the world.

“With the sale of Mediaroom, Microsoft is devoting all its resources to the Xbox TV” , said the company statement.

As seen in recent rumors, the company is interested in creating an ecosystem of entertainment from the console, including a possible streaming platform.

is said that the next Xbox will be announced on May 21, when they probably know more about the plans of television that has Microsoft.
