Chinese state television CCTV News said Tuesday that one of their Twitter accounts were hacked, and deleted a tweet reporting that the country’s president had prepared a special unit to investigate allegations of corruption against a former security chief.

tweet Monday afternoon seemed to refer to an article in the Hong Kong newspaper South China Morning Post.

“The Twitter account was subject CCTV News October 21, illegal track incorrect information copied from other sources,” CCTV said in his Twitter account in English. “It has been erased unauthorized information,” he said.

Zhang Xiaojian spokesman confirmed that one of the Twitter accounts of the chain had been pirated, without elaborating.

China, which is often accused of orchestrating cyber attacks, said to be one of the main victims of this activity.

“President Xi Jinping has created a special unit to investigate corruption cases against retired leader Zhou Yongkang,” read the tweet deleted, according to a screenshot of freeweibo.com, against censorship site greatfire.org.

Foreign media, including the South China Morning Post, have said that Zhou was under investigation for corruption. Sources told Reuters last month that the former officer was assisting in an investigation, it was not subject to the same.

retired as chief of security of the powerful Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party during a reorganization in November.

Xi said that corruption is a threat to the survival of the party.

Although Twitter is blocked in China, state media have some accounts in an apparent attempt to reach foreign audiences.

account has about 2,480 followers, compared to 9.9 million the main account on Sina Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter.
