Facebook also wants its share of television advertising - SlashGear

Facebook also wants to turn into a business’s comments about TV programs that occur within the network. While Twitter today announced first measurements made with Nielsen on the comments generated by shows, Facebook announced plans to close deal with 10 television networks in eight countries.

TF1 in France, Channel 4 in the UK, ARD in Germany, Esporte STAR Interativo networks in Brazil and India joined the project, planning to use the data to show advertisers that their programs generate movement and conversation online, what that could raise the price of advertising space for certain series.

Facebook began to provide information regarding the number of “actions” (I like it, comments or shared) generated by an episode of TV in America. Expansion to other countries is logical to Facebook, and that 83% of its users are outside the U.S. and Canada. It also gives you the advantage of arriving before Twitter with your rating measurement.

regard to interactions occurring on Facebook, a spokesman for the company said the end of Breaking Bad, the birth of Prince George in England, Game of Thrones, Downtown Abbey and Wimbledon generated a lot of comments. When Miley Cyrus made its debut at the MTV Video Music Awards, 9 million people generated 26 million interactions on Facebook.

data type are still new and their uses have yet to be refined. For example, the channel could allow the audience know more than their age and gender, because Facebook has many more personal details.
