Juan Manuel Cao, 'Television is a magnet for narcissists' - Brownsville Herald

Juan Manuel Cao

can say he has done a tour of the major TV channels in Miami. Cuban journalist, which began in the early 1990s on Channel 23 Univision in the Promotions department, of which he became director, took a day the way of competition and worked for several years covering local news, and especially those related to Cuba, in the News 51 Telemundo. After the jump came as news presenter 5pm Tevé America, a task which has added a few months ago driving your own program The Mirror , which is transmitted by that channel from Monday to Friday at 10:30 pm

Mirror ‘ is delving into deeper issues to Cuban exile and to Miami as government spies of Cuba who live and work in this city. Tell us about the program and how the audience receives it.

Mirror is a program of opinion, not interviews or debates, but use both resources. The difference is that the presenter does not try to be impartial and fair. The program starts with a short monologue in which the anchor fixed position and then invited the panelists to agree or disagree. Some recommended me keep my monologue to the end, but that would be a tagline and the intention is to open the debate, not close it.

Emissions devoted to espionage always receive great attention from the public. As we said in the program: Miami has become Casablanca.

What is your opinion on the subject of Cuban spies in Miami? You think you can hurt?

ghosts exist, although many do not see. Miami seems to be full of Cuban agents to give the impression that you have joined those of Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia. Not paranoia. Just look around you. Or look through the record.

Why did you choose that name for your program?

elected president of the company, Omar Romay. The idea is to be a space to reflect the concerns of the city, as in a mirror.

Think TV makes people a little narcissistic, there is too much self-contemplation?

backwards. The television is a magnet for narcissists.

What are the challenges facing the media today and what we can expect in the near future?

great challenge for traditional media is internet. The future is coming so fast that it always immediate. I do not know what we can expect from it.

‘ve done interviews with numerous political, but it was a memorable encounter with Fidel Castro. How do you remember that time? Did you feel that strong personality or Castro is said to have behaved like a man cornered?

I’ve had three encounters with Fidel Castro: the first was in Chile, the second in Panama, and the third and most talked about, in Argentina. The public remembered for the tantrum he rode, and because a few days then twisted his intestines. On all three occasions behaved as what it is: a despot who responds with insults and defamatory specific questions.
