Romero In September 2012, just out of prison, he was involved in a police chase on the outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona, after stealing a car at gunpoint. When he was surrounded and unable to keep running, the man pulled a gun and shot himself in the head. The directors could not cut the images on time and the entire episode was broadcast live.
Angela Rodriguez, mother of three of the children of Romero, filed a civil lawsuit in Maricopa County explaining the harm to children 15, 13 and 9 years old, who heard about the suicide at school and then recognized his father in the videos posted on the Internet when they got home. Children have so far not been able to return to school due to psychological trauma.
Shepard Smith, the person who was in charge of the news that day, apologized for the incident and said the network caused a delay 5 seconds when Romero left the car with the gun. In a statement, the executive vice president of publishing news, Michael Clemente said that the transmission was the result of a “human mistake”.
