HAVANA, June 9 (Xinhua) – Cuba evidence in some parts of Havana digital television, an essay should cover later this month to more than fifty districts of all municipalities Havana, with some 45,000 homes involved.

Director of Science and Technological Innovation of the Ministry of Communications, Grisel Reyes, said the deployment plan aims to anticipate these transmissions technological obsolescence in the industry.

For the transformation technology, the island will use the standard Chinese Digital Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB, for its acronym in English), considered the most beneficial to the objectives and needs of the country, according to a CEO television program of the Institute for Telecommunications Research and Development (LACETEL), Glauco Guillen.

The expert reported that the Chinese government gave the island the use of intellectual property of the rule, with exemption payment, and also donated equipment used in testing, including decoders that are shared between the selected households.

In the previously chosen areas are distributed decoders, popularly called “boxes”, an adjunct Haier brand that can receive the new signals on traditional TVs, provided they are in good audio and video input, antenna and connector downspout.

Havana was chosen as a test range for their geographical conditions, high density of users, many tall buildings, and the technical quality of the networks that allows full coverage a complex territory.

With the support of neighborhood organizations such as the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) in the selected districts, this month should end the distribution of decoders, which are priced at 7.35 pesos (about 34 cents a parallel shift).

In addition to the five channels local national and Havana in the experiment can be fetched International CubaVisión emissions, plus a child signal has limited hours, and another entirely dedicated to the music that is being tested.

The trial allows access to value added services than ever before had offered public television as an electronic guide, news, cultural news and the weather.

That kind of television, which means energy savings for the island to reduce the number of transmitters needed, viewers advantages, like getting a uniform signal higher quality audio and video, and access to the aforementioned value-added services.

It will also more efficient use of radio spectrum, and decrease the weight of the antenna system located on the transmission towers that are vulnerable to hurricanes which traditionally plague the island.

Initiating transmission tests signals in a demonstration of the service area in Havana is the beginning of the implementation of a three-stage plan to gradually introduce digital television on the island.

In the first stage, five, coexist system analog and digital transmission, which will facilitate the adaptation of all the progressive step towards the new system.

In the second stage, planned from 2016, will be installed the necessary coverage for service and the last, in 2021, completed the process with the so-called “blackout” analog.
