After four years of proceedings, on Tuesday the Senate approved DTT Law , by 24 votes in favor and 3 against in his second constitutional.

initiative,-entered in November 2008 -, allow legal entry system implementation free, which will produce a better quality picture and sound households in the country.

Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Pedro Pablo Errazuriz , said on his Twitter account that this law “is a big step for soon all Chileans have television free digital “.

After the close of the session, the President of the Senate, Jorge Pizarro (DC) said ironically that “believe it or not this project is dispatched” allusion to the long time that legislation was stagnant.

standard was approved five years ago during the administration of former President Michelle Bachelet and corresponds to the ISDB-T with MPEG4 encoding , created in Japan and amended in Brazil, where it is called SBTVD (Brazilian System of Digital Television).

This standard is already used in most South American countries except Colombia, Suriname and French Guiana, who opted for European standard DVB-T.

While

TV channels are already making test transmissions, it is expected that the effect of this new law will accelerate the process of transition from analogue to digital, as well as the public who will have to change to a TV with standard digital or acquisition of a decoder to receive the signal.
