Artists and administrative staff of the orchestra and chorus of the Radio Television of Greece (ERT), closed by government order, issued Monday a letter inviting the people to perform acts of solidarity to achieve the reopening of the chain. In the letter, addressed to musicians, performers and public media workers around the world, said the withering presidential decree last Tuesday which ended the ERT left on the street to members of the two orchestras and the choir who were part of visual entity. senders reported that the National Symphony Orchestra, which dates from 1938, the Contemporary Music Orchestra, 1954, and the Choir of ERT, created in 1977, ceased their activity and is not intended by the government which has room for them in the future public broadcaster. “The decision to close a European country’s national broadcaster is a major setback for democracy and culture, which affects us all,” says the text, while defending the European ensembles broadcasting as “pillars of civilization, artistic creativity and freedom of expression, to be an essential part of human existence. “ For this reason, and the danger of their disappearance, the signatories demanded aid and solidarity in other countries and in every way possible, and sending supportive formal statements directed to the office of the Prime Minister, the ministry Finance and Culture of Greece. “It is very important to make them understand why a radio and public television must include musical groups,” they concluded.
