has been described as the visual equivalent of surround sound devices, a new system designed by researchers at the BBC that promises to give the viewer a real immersive TV experience.

This is a project that combines a normal camera view, with a broader view covering the entire space of a room and you are shooting with normal lenses and fisheye.

The BBC has been working on this idea since 2006 in its Research and Development department, using its own calibration program and inverted projection technique that works with standard projectors.

The idea is that this system can be attached to existing TVs and projectors to convert the entire room in part of the image.

“It gives you an immersive experience without the side effects of 3D systems. feels not a trick, it gives you a headache, does not interfere with your vision. If you wear glasses do not have to put others above these”, Lilah said Vanderburgh, director of Kill Mode , a short animation developed specifically to be seen with this system.

Philips for example, promoted the idea in 2004 with Ambilight television crews, they cast light around the TV to suit the mood of the reproduced content. But innovation was not well received by the public.

Meanwhile

Microsoft, is working on a system called IllumiRoom immersive game.

Kinect system uses cameras and a projector to extend the graphics beyond the television screen, but still no signs clarso of when it might go on sale.

device developed by BBC will be presented for the first time during the Festival of Science Fiction, London, taking place on Sunday at the British Film Institute .
