NICOSIA, Jan. 2 (Reuters / EP) –

The public television Cyprus has apologized Thursday for mistakenly broadcast New Year message of a former leader of the country instead of the current president, Nicos Anastasiades, during the night of December 31 .

Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) has said that he noticed his error a few seconds into the broadcast speech president Demetris Christofias, and therefore stopped the broadcast.

CyBC has opened an internal investigation into this error, which the chain itself has described as “very serious,” according to a statement released by the Cypriot news agency CNA. Christofias left office after Nicos Anastasiades won elections in February 2013.
