Sex no longer a taboo in cable TV - The Nacional.com

Explored and many corners of violence, cable TV U.S. now studying sex issue that an ambitious new series focuses period. Masters of Sex

Inspired by the pioneering research on human sexuality directed by William Masters and Virginia Johnson in the late fifties, the production is the most obvious example of sex on the small screen. But beyond that, industry analysts agree that carnal intercourse had never been present on television.

The series includes many explicit sex scenes including simulated orgasms, many of them resulting from the use of the research tool of choice Dr. Masters, a vibrator called “Ulysses”, with a small camera integrated, filmed inside the vagina.

“Certainly television, including open channels, seems much more able to address issues on which no interest before, and is sex and violence in a way unimaginable a few years ago” said Richard Walter, professor of film and television at the University of California.

Successful channel HBO series cable – Game of Thrones , Girls , Boardwalk Empire and True Blood – and its competitors – The Bridge , Spartacus and Da Vinci’s Demons – and not skimp on scenes sex with total nudity, both male and female.

“When you pay to have cable television, you can afford some things. And those things are violence, sex and undesirable behaviors, “said David Nevins, president of Showtime pay channel, in a meeting with the Television Critics Association. “I think people look for the same reason we produce: to be at the forefront,” he said

Cable channels may show sex on screen because it is transmitted over the public airwaves and, therefore, are not subject to the rules that the Federal Communications Commission established on the contents said Walter.
